Protection of minors vs protection of data – the challenges of age verification and age appropriate designs

On 4 December 2024, the Institute of the Information Society will organise an expert workshop entitled Protection of minors vs protection of data - the challenges of age verification and age appropriate designs, on the challenges and opportunities of protecting minors in the online space. The workshop is organized by telecom and audiovisual media teams of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the University of Public Service in collaboration with CULLEN International.

The aim of the event is to discuss how to use technology to protect children from unwanted content online, as part of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union. With the entry into force of the rules on the European digital identity wallet in the European Union, the possibility of using the wallet for age verification has been created.  However, this has a number of risks, in particular data protection risks. The event will seek to strike a balance between the application of child protection and data protection rules by involving different actors in the value chain.

The conference is free to attend but registration is required.
