The Institute of the Information Society can continue its work as a UNESCO Chair! In 2024, our research institute submitted its application for international recognition in the field of research on the social impact and regulation of online platforms. According to the official notification sent by UNESCO, IIS's application was successful: the world organization will establish a new chair in IIS under the name UNESCO Chair on Digital Platforms for Knowledge Societies based on an agreement with the university.
Under the successful application, our research institute as a UNESCO Chair, under the direction of Bernát Török, will focus on the study of good practices and digital skills related to the use of online platforms, the regulation of platforms to increase their social utility, and the ethical and legal aspects of the use of innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence, in decision-making processes. The IIS could become Hungary's fourth UNESCO Chair.
