Our researcher visited Arrupe Jesuit University in Zimbabwe

András Pünkösty visited Arrupe Jesuit University in Zimbabwe, Harare, between 25 August and 11 September. In the framework of his academic visit, András gave a public lecture on 28 August at AJU titled Artificial Intelligence Regulation in the European Union: The First Attempt to Regulate AI Comprehensively. On this occasion, the opening remarks were given by Fr Stephen Buckland SJ Vice Chancellor, who highlighted the utmost relevance and the ethical implications of the topic. After the introduction by Dr Isaac Mutelo OP, András gave an overview of the policy development of AI at the EU level, with special attention to the regulatory approach and the implementation of the EU AI Act. The public lecture was followed by a vivid discussion among  the Faculty members and Students. 

On the 4th of September, a Staff (Faculty) seminar was also given by András Pünkösty titled The Challenges of Regulating Generative AI and Its Impact on Higher Education. The ceremony was directed by Dr Prudence Kadebu. Several questions and remarks were discussed during the plenary session led by Fr. John Enslin, highlighting both the possibilities and the risks posed by LLMs in higher education. The interactive session shed light on the different approaches of  the use of generative AI at the University level.

Besides the open lectures, András actively got involved in teaching  while visiting AJU. András gave two academic lectures in the framework of the International Law III. course, and another lecture for the students of the Legal Philosophy course. This lecture concerned the  Human Rights Protection at the European Union level.
